Act #2...I'm still angry....

Via UC Regent Live (blog)

I have a story that needs to be heard. I am the girl you’ve read about, the one who hung the noose in Geisel Library.

Firstly, I’m writing to apologize. I don’t have an excuse for what I did, and I deeply regret it.

Secondly, I’m writing to hopefully put a little bit of faith back into the UCSD campus by clarifying that it was not an act of racism. This is what happened.

I found a small piece of rope on the ground earlier in the day. While I was hanging out with my friends a bit later, we tried jump- roping with it and making it into a lasso. My friend then took the rope and tied it into a noose. I innocently marveled at his ability to tie a noose, without thinking of any of its connotations or the current racial climate at UCSD. I left soon after with one of my friends for Geisel to study, still carrying the rope. After a bit of studying I picked up the rope to play with, and ended up hanging it by my desk. It was a mindless act and stupid mistake. When I got up to leave, a couple hours later, I simply forgot about it. This was Tuesday night. Three days later, on Friday morning, I found out that the noose had been found and construed as another racist act on campus. I felt so ashamed and embarrassed, and the first thing I did was call the campus police and confess. I was hoping to clarify that this was not an act of racism before the incident got a full reaction from the campus. I gave my statement around 9 a.m. They thanked me for coming forward and for trying to clear up the issue. Later, I received a campuswide e-mail saying that I confessed and had been taken into custody, which simply wasn’t true. One thing that is true is that I have been suspended. I know what I did was offensive — regardless of my intentions — I am just trying to say I’m sorry. As a minority student who sympathizes with the students that have been affected by the recent issues on campus, I am distraught to know that I have unintentionally added to their pain.

This is one crazy story...

There's a saying: raise your daughters and love your sons....

Sometimes I believe "standards" and "expectations" and the like get blurred in our homes and society for our children. Circumstance steps in along with experience and some lose their way. But that is never to say they can not find it again...Peep:

Et tu....traveller?

On my way to the airport, I noticed this funny thing on the airtran. If you can't see in my shoddy 6am camera work, the ad says:"THE CHEAPER WAY TO MIDTOWN MANHATTAN....$7.25"

Basically (for those of you who have never had to embark on transit from JFK into the city) they are advertising an alternative to paying an average of $45 bucks from the airport to the New York area. It's $5 bucks to ride the airtran and $2.25 to take the subway anywhere in the city....transfers are FREE.99!

This got me to thinking...there seems to be a stigma in this country. I never got around to blogging my Italy trip in its entirety (partly because I'm lazy/busy/overwhelmed and misty-eyed every time I look at all those damn pictures) but when I was over there, and in London, it's not hard at all to notice how very little attention people pay to the HOW they get places. It's more about the quality of time spent. Cars are smaller, as is public transportation, not to mention WILDLY more efficient. And EVERYONE uses it without a second thought.

I can't tell you how many people I know in New York and LA that wouldn't be caught dead on a bus or a metro. I, too was guilty as charged for a bit. Even when I moved to NYC, it took me a while to get on the bus LOL. Now I make friends on the mofo, the weekly driver knows my name...shoot I meet Head Cases!

So why is it that when in Rome, literally, we can do what is best for the environment and our pockets but at home we must do what's best for our image? Are we Howard Hughes germaphobes? Is it pride? Is it comfort? Or simply we can not get past the image of the Jones' that was firmly placed on our walls once upon a time that subconsciously stated, "We can't ride anything that takes tokens"....

So what's really good Head Casers? Did your house disappear in a freak lightning storm? No seriously let's just pray for the Air France flight first......and then let's turn to the real news that as of today, you now need a passport to travel to Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda and Canada....

Well folks...I hope you've all paid you're $60+ and taken your cute snap shots.

Will they ever learn?

I was truly saddened to have this brought to my attention yesterday. Now I MUST advise that the following video is truly violent and disturbing to think that there is still such inhumane and indecent thoughts and actions among those supposed to protect us. Apparently on New Years Day, my hometown of Oakland suffered yet another brutal cop crime. Check it out:

This video is UNBELIEVABLE. Like the lawyer said, how was THAT your next logical move? Were you starring in your own personal action movie Mr. Officer? RIP to young Mr. Grant and our condolences to his family. I hope they get way more than $27 mil because losing a life to senseless violence should have no monetary value....it strips you of WAY too much.

A crisis needing more attention...

So I have been following the Gaza/Israel conflict (really since undergrad) recently but have been refraining from posting for fear that I might go overboard (like with my Obama affliction) and who wants to see war everyday when you come to Head Cases for you guilty pleasure.

However, I feel the need to express how I feel about it as the violence intensifies and the lack of empathy increases. I found this video which is mostly from the views of the children living in the refugee camps and their perspectives. It's amazing how so many repeatedly in history can fall victim to the overzealous and staunch views of the few. Check this out and particularly pay attention to the very articulate little girl about halfway through:

It takes courage to be an instrument of change and let's hope that Obama truly is that because the UN has not been doing what they were built to do....

What's up world?

What's good Mumbai? The world should be celebrating there's not going to be an idiot trying to come change their countries and take their cultures away, people are still acting a damn fool apparently:

Yet another travesty for Obama's plate....

What's really good India? WHY? All the reports are so detailed as to how they did it. But nobody knows why, the reasons as to why these militants are carrying on these shenannies in India.

Have yall peeped this?

Jack Sparrow has some damn competition. Have you guys heard about these pirates of the coast of Somalia???

They have been pouncing on ships all over the Indian Ocean including an Oil Tanker in a recession! Check this out, now an American chick, Michele Lynn Ballarin, is acting like a negotiator:

Yo ho yo ho.....a PIRATES life fo me!!!

I'm blunt...and rather observant...DUH that means I should blog! I suffer from, no let me rephrase, I combat living with an AVM on a daily basis. An AVM is an Abnormal Veinous Malformation which affects about 250,000 people in the US (http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/dept/cerebro/AVM.htm#Link8). It affects everyone differently, for me it's caused a constant headache since 2003...litterally. I've been in countless doctors offices, been poked and proded, been through the emotions of being misdiagnosed with a brain tumor. Needless to say, I've been through a lot and not just because of my...let's call it an ailment. Above all I've developed a less than common outlook on life and perception of things.Don't for one minute misconstrue, I'm in no way a victim, I'm self-sufficient almost to a fault and encourage others to turn their weaknesses into empowerment. It builds character and makes for one hell of a screenplay ha! That combined with growing up immersed in a semi-charmed world, and the glitz and glamour of Hollyweird leads to some interesting anecdotes...Here are my thoughts...

There are many other Headcases in the world...here are a few..
