It's almost the golden hour...

As I sit and watch CNN, Larry King is patiently (and possibly empathetically) listening to Ariana Huffington describe the historic nature of the evening and the call of duty placed on the American public.  "He ran his campaign brilliantly," she says, "And largely in part of this glorious tool of the internet we have."

Now besides that fact that it tickles my feather that I think white some people are still in shock that he actually won, and that we are going to have a black president, I am more happy that they are giving credit where credit is due. He did run a great campaign.

The reason I have been m.i.a. was due to family shenanigans in celebration of my grandfather's 80th birthday. While hanging with my family, the usual generational conversation came up. "Our generation were the revolutionaries!" my mother declared.

M.: Revolutionaries?!? Y'all were the lazy ones. You gave one good bang for the Vietnam war and then gave in to "the man"...or kids.

Uncle.: That blackberry you're using, that apple laptop you have. That's thanks to that lazy generation.

M.: Way to ride the coattails. you guys made the fossils of what my generation perfected and now you guys don't even know how to use the things. Grandpa was the one with the Panthers, civil rights, colored only schools.

Throughout many conversations while with my family it made me think how differently we are all watching this occurrence. I think I join in my grandparent's sentiments that I wish the elders were here to see this. And it's an interesting dichotomy because as much as we want the youngsters coming up now to be in a colorless society, we still want them to know where they come from, know why this is significant, historical, why it matters so much. Why we are proud.

How do you marry the two? Teach them the future without a hold to the past. I guess all we can do is celebrate the present, in all its wonder, and hope the rest finds it's place.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!!!

On the other note, great blog on the eve of the most life changing event I am sure that will happen in our generation. How do you marry the two... by doing exactly what you did...Keeping the line of communication open so that we can each accept the differences of each generation but never disregard the advancements of each. If we keep doing this, our generation will learn from each other and acknowledge the work of each!

A lil inside mi noggin..

I'm blunt...and rather observant...DUH that means I should blog! I suffer from, no let me rephrase, I combat living with an AVM on a daily basis. An AVM is an Abnormal Veinous Malformation which affects about 250,000 people in the US (http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/dept/cerebro/AVM.htm#Link8). It affects everyone differently, for me it's caused a constant headache since 2003...litterally. I've been in countless doctors offices, been poked and proded, been through the emotions of being misdiagnosed with a brain tumor. Needless to say, I've been through a lot and not just because of my...let's call it an ailment. Above all I've developed a less than common outlook on life and perception of things.Don't for one minute misconstrue, I'm in no way a victim, I'm self-sufficient almost to a fault and encourage others to turn their weaknesses into empowerment. It builds character and makes for one hell of a screenplay ha! That combined with growing up immersed in a semi-charmed world, and the glitz and glamour of Hollyweird leads to some interesting anecdotes...Here are my thoughts...

There are many other Headcases in the world...here are a few..
