Now I've been watching Real World since season 1. That's right back in 1992, before Eric was doing workout videos and Vjing, before Kevin was a politician, Heather was still rappin, and there was so much to debate in that house. It was full of fire and legitimate arguments. Hell it was full of intelligent people...and Eric (lol jp).
Since then, Real World has gone on to countless locations and had 21 seasons filmed. There were highlights like Hawaii, Miami, Vegas, London, New Orleans (who remembers David's "Come and be my baby tonight", Seattle was great the first time someone got bitch slapped. We cried with San Fransisco when Pedro died and learned to love/hate Puck. There have been many successes but also many flops. Paris sucked. Hollywood was just socially retarded. Sydney was just...interesting....(remember the crows???). Needless to say they've been hit and miss for us true fans but the Bunim/Murray production house is undeniably the pioneer of reality TV. They started it all and now here is their latest. Real World: Brooklyn.
Now obviously, they've decided to exploit the fact that they put 7 dysfunctional people in a house and make it look as gritty, dark, cryptic, and
As a media outlet, you're now showing little Johnny in Minnesota who has never been to the big city that's what we look like ova hea. But like Kat Williams says in "It's Pimpin Pimpin", "Most people in America think that THIS is what D.C. looks like (as he looks at a glowing picture of the White House). But what they don't know is that while they are lookin at this, D.C. is behind them and really looks like THIS what's up my ni**as?! (as he turns to the predominately black audience)". We are a nice melting pot of cultures in BK and that's why I love it opposed to the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and as opposed to . People speak to eachother, know and look out for eachother's children, watch them grow up. I feel like I live on the Huxtables block...maybe that's cuz Cosby and Crooklyn were filmed around the corner lol. But in a nutshell, it's not the mini-Manhattan that the show will display or that certain areas may be becoming.
I'm not so optimistic about this season but we shall see....I do know my desire to be a non-typical black girl on the show has waned lol.
