Sotomayorrrrrr!

"I chose to be a lawyer and ultimately a judge because I find endless challenge in the complexities of the law," Sotomayor said. "For as long as I can remember, I have been inspired by the achievement of our founding fathers. They set forward principles that have endured for more than two centuries. . . .

"It would be a profound privilege for me to play a role in applying those principles in the . . . controversies we face today," Sotomayor continued. "I am an ordinary person who has been blessed with extraordinary opportunities and experiences."

Well well well...historic didn't want to stop in winter eh? Let's go all year long shall we? In fact let's not just take February, let's take the WHOLE YEAR....jusssssst kidding.

If you've been under a rock or somehow managed to find a magic island where nobody's plugged in (tell me where it is!...NOW!), President Obama has nominated the FIRST latina and THIRD female candidate for supreme court. Did someone say progress? I hear a change in the back. Can I get an amen?

Now before we even get into who she is, in a time where institutions are trying to tell me the who, what, when, where, and why's of my body I'm just glad to have someone who actually KNOWS what cramps feel like stating an opinion in the final say so.

No on to la mujer.....Enter Sonia Sotomayor from right here in New York City. She's Nuyorican in fact and grew up in the South Bronx. She's a smarty pants, Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, yada yada boom boom. Interestingly enough, she's been in good with both sides. President Bush #1 appointed her to Federal District Court and later Clinton appointed her to 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. But therein lays the problema.....she kicks it on the fence.

Sotomayor doesn't seem to feel one way or another about current pressing issues that might face her on the court such as Gay Marriage, Abortion....Legalizing Mary Jane? So I'm conflicted. While I want to jump for joy and yell in the streets for feminism, is this chick really gonna hold it down? Or is she a tool? Thoughts?

What ever her role is in politics, our very own president has shown us that this is hope for change. Now that we see that if we hold are leaders accountable, there is sometimes that possibility that they may deliver.

So I say, get that lady into the job. Let us deal with her on the fruits of her work and not the unknown possibilities. Either way, if she makes it in, it will be one small step for a that little BX girl, but one large step for man kind!

A lil inside mi noggin..

I'm blunt...and rather observant...DUH that means I should blog! I suffer from, no let me rephrase, I combat living with an AVM on a daily basis. An AVM is an Abnormal Veinous Malformation which affects about 250,000 people in the US (http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/dept/cerebro/AVM.htm#Link8). It affects everyone differently, for me it's caused a constant headache since 2003...litterally. I've been in countless doctors offices, been poked and proded, been through the emotions of being misdiagnosed with a brain tumor. Needless to say, I've been through a lot and not just because of my...let's call it an ailment. Above all I've developed a less than common outlook on life and perception of things.Don't for one minute misconstrue, I'm in no way a victim, I'm self-sufficient almost to a fault and encourage others to turn their weaknesses into empowerment. It builds character and makes for one hell of a screenplay ha! That combined with growing up immersed in a semi-charmed world, and the glitz and glamour of Hollyweird leads to some interesting anecdotes...Here are my thoughts...
